FAO in Zambia

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and malnutrition. Zambia became a Member of FAO on 22 November 1965. FAO is uniquely placed to achieve a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) organized around FAO’s four aspirations better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life).

FAO’s assistance in Zambia has been shaped by the Country Programming Framework (CPF 2023 - 2027) in line with successive national development blueprints and United Nations Framework (UNDAF) for Zambia. Since Zambia joined FAO in 1965, cooperation has focused on the provision of technical assistance in the country’s agriculture sector, including rural development.
